Amanda Bynes denies speaking to In Touch Weekly, In Touch issues statement

As we’ve been discussing all week, Amanda Bynes gave an “exclusive” interview to In Touch Weekly, where she announced that she is engaged to a 19-year-old, that she hates men, that she hates driving because she doesn’t like the way she looks behind the wheel, how she wants babies but only boys because she would feel jealous of a daughter. She also told In Touch that someone implanted a microchip in her head and people are reading her thoughts. I tended to believe that Amanda actually spoke to someone at In Touch, just because of the way they attributed her quotes. But Amanda had a hissy fit on Twitter (her original Twitter account) about the exclusive interview, writing in part:

Well I am suing In Touch for lying about me entirely

I am not insane and they lied about me in every way

They continue to write lies about me and it really hurts my feelings because they are calling me insane and I’m actually really smart.

I finally hired the best lawyer in new york city to sue in Touch magazine because they are utterly insane and & lying to the public about me

I will sue any one in the media who lies about me and says I ever gave them an interview when I never gave literally any magazine a quote

I am getting married and my boyfriend and I are going to be on the cover People magazine

because although they have made up things about me before, they will omit any error they’ve made

Yes. I should note… no one is laughing. I’ve noticed some comments along the lines of “don’t laugh, this is a sad situation.” NO ONE IS LAUGHING. Everyone agrees that this is a sad situation. Everyone agrees that she is profoundly unwell and likely a danger to herself and others. As for her specific claims that she never spoke to anyone at In Touch, the magazine released a photo of Amanda with one of their reporters (that header photo of this post), plus this statement:

“After identifying themselves, two of our reporters spent the afternoon with Amanda Bynes on Sunday, Oct. 5. She was aware that they were from Bauer. At one point, she even discussed writing a column for the magazine. Every word of our account is accurate and we hope that Amanda gets the help that she needs.”

[Statement from a representative for the company, In Touch Weekly]

Yeah, I believe In Touch. This isn’t “gotcha journalism” or anything, I’m sure they properly identified themselves and asked if they could conduct an on-the-record interview and I’m sure she agreed. As for why she tweeted all of that stuff… I think it would be difficult to apply logic to this situation.
