For the third time in five games, an animal rights protester has been ejected from a Timberwolves game.
It has now become a recurring theme in the Timberwolves’ playoff series where a woman wearing a “Glen Taylor Roasts Animals Alive” T-shirt attempts to storm the court in some bizarre fashion in order to attract attention.
Two of the attempts, including one where a woman glued herself to the court, and another where another woman chained herself to the basket stanchion, were somewhat successful, as they did get the message across despite being ejected shortly after. But the third attempt, which occurred on Saturday night at the Target Center, didn’t even get off the ground (literally).

The woman, who was identified by her own “Direct Action Everywhere” organization as Sasha Zemmel, came to the game wearing an NBA official underneath her jacket. Sitting a few rows from courtside, behind T-Wolves owner Glen Taylor, her plan was to take off the jacket and walk onto the court pretending to be an NBA ref, and then blow a whistle and “eject” Glen Taylor.
Unfortunately for her, her plan never got off the ground. A nearby security guard spotted her before she even took off the jacket, and the moment she stood up to run onto the court, the guard tackled her to the ground in embarrassing fashion. Play was stopped, and more guards ran onto the court to assist and eject the unruly protester.

Zemmel, along with the previous protesters, is a member of the organization “Direct Action Everywhere”, an extremist animal rights organization that has accused Glen Taylor of chicken abuse at his factory egg farm in Iowa. They have called for Taylor to step down as owner immediately, although he has no plans of doing so at this time.
Perhaps Zemmel acted as a good luck charm for the home team, as the Timberwolves managed to narrowly edge out the Memphis Grizzlies, 119-118. They’ve evened up the series at two games apiece, and will look to take a lead in the series tomorrow night in Memphis.
